why do promoters book top name djs? is it because they think they're great ? or because they give an event credibility, are they worth their fee ? i just wonder if some of our local djs can do as well or even better . would anybody come to an event that had a list of djs nobody knew? jo Maybe the answer is to run Newquay, but NOT list the djs at all and wait and see, its a risk though , don't you agree ?

i have to be carefull here but ive noticed theres some great top dj's out there that will support any small, medium, big or new doo's @ a pitence or @ least try and chip in for free these Dj's are in my eyes the ones i love to see @ Doo's because you know they are there for the right reasons ie Playing Soul, supporting new events, and youll always know this i think by the way they play to the floor You know the floor will be constantly packed, room buzzing, and the Dj is playing songs to keep that atmosphere going and is dancing away hiself aswell with a big grin on his/her face ;D Also they support the up & coming mere mortals like us low non budget dj's that do & will play for nowt but the same love it when you get the chance Also theyll support new Doo's or New Venues or promoters, because they see past cash signs and try to support new venues/nights etc, because there in it for the Soul In my eyes there the ones you need! theyll do it for nowt really because they just wanna play Soul i know theres getting less of the top dj's now with this feeling still in there hearts but i reckon there is still some! Then you have the jump upped dj's that will kill a floor in seconds, because they aint bothered what the floors like, they are just set on playing a song they reckon is great but everyone else has never heard it then instead of thinking oh-nuts ive cocked up there no they go & play another one seen it so many times, and also there the type that just dont want to be polite,or chat with other small dj's or relise there is people @ a doo that are either returning to the soulscene or its there 1st doo etc,so you see these folk coming up to them after the sets and saying thanks, and what was that song?but they just nod and bugger off! leaving them poor folk bewildered, and not knowing what they danced to! In my eyes thats the best compliment etc, when ive been on and if ive played a song and you get folk clapping after that song,or coming up saying thanks and what was that song theyd danced too! its like being on drugs again ;D best feeling in the world in my eyes, and ive done it for free for years ;D There are some really great, nice polite/freindly TOP dj's out there, and theyve been really supportive to me and also helped me out so much its unreal, and must mention even shared the decks with me ;D 1 deck each or took a risk and put my name forward to promoters etc Thank god these guys are sort of south southwest etc so we are bloody lucky! to have'em In my eyes there top Dj's and you would pay to go and see,but there is some great unknown dj's out there, that will do it for love or just to be part of the event and hopefully make that event even better! Ive been lucky because ive been asked to help or dj @ some local events and ive loved it,every minuite of it but i think a balance of top (proper) not up own arses dj's! and local liccle unknowns together bring a breeze of fresh talent & makes the event great in my eyes! So hats off to the promoters for asking and including us little dj's

good reply Pip, I have some views on top big name djs that i think i may get slaughtered for, so i best keep them to myself ( not like me eh ? ) The problem we have as promoters is how to give your event credibility, without spending a fortune. I have seen djs walk in with a tiny box to play from leaving no room for adjustments/requests, and play the same set they play everywhere yet command big fees. we would never book someone that is in that pocket. I also believe that when a dj is booked that his job is to help promote your event, talk about it, bring people, have a following etc, yet i don't think many, if any, do that. I have an idea to have a room at the weekender for little known but quality djs and just let them loose, an idea i may have to fight for ;D

damn tricky subject, theres some bloody good dj,s out there with great collections far better than many of the likes of me could ever afford and some of em are genuine and deserve the recognition they deserve, on the other hand theres nothing better than supporting your local dj,s on the dancefloor(ady, pip, tony) thats soul from the heart and its a great feeling

We are lucky i think down here as we do have some top DJ's that do make the effort to promote and help out events etc! We all know who the good guys are,and as ive said before a few of them i myself owe a hell of a lot to So hopefully as things get more and more busier down here other top lads will see that they will profit more by getting involved aswell as having the respect of everyone because they are seen to be aproachable, willing to help and dont trash up & coming dj's or new events! We are lucky to have the talents & comitments of the Dj's that come from stoke downwards to cornwall & they are the true top Dj's in my eyes and as i say we all know who they are! and hopefully thats why we try to support their events aswell

as been said darn tricky subject, Ady, Pip, and Tony, and not to forget Martin Stevens, are all appreciated for your efforts and dedication. Must mention Kev. although he has passed away he won't be forgotten and Lee Vowles of course I am still no nearer to deciding whether to bother with top end djs, guess thats my dilema !!

I agree with Karen.Yes for the bigger do's but we don't need them for the smaller local do.We use dj's that are local ish but can get a venue rocking. As we proved at the last Bourne For Soul. Dave.

Thank you dave, but Newquay pulls in people from all over the country, so i think what will happen is we will have some headliners and then our local guys ( which i think are brill ) appreciate your feedback Jo
