Having Just done my first Promotion at The Elbow rooms and filling the place so full, people were halfway down the stairs ( anyone who was there will confirm) I have decided to turn this into a regular event with up and coming bands and guest DJ slots. I am looking for a larger venue in Central Bristol that has a lated licence, can anyone help?

Hey
I'm a way away from Bristol and tend to only go there to play gigs or attend gigs but I've got a couple of venues you might want to try. I don't really know Bristol well, so I've got no idea if these places are central or not...but they seem to be quite well attended and host fairly sizable nights.
You could try the Lakota (because it seemed really quiet last time I went there (around November), I reckon they could use the trade), maybe partner another night there that's complimentary, or we did a reggae soundclash at the Trinity Centre in St Pauls earlier in the year - that was a good venue. Nice wooden floor, a bit boomy but you can make a great night out of that place; I'm pretty sure we went on till about 5am there. Friendly staff, decent installed PA (not that we heard/used it - but it looked pretty respectable). Both of these are pretty decent sized places and have late licences.
Good luck mate, if you need to hook up with other promoters to cover the building let me know. I've met a few people up that way that might be able to help, especially if you've got your own crowd sorted on day 1.

hi,lakota is mainly tehno, dnb etc and trinity still do ocasional roots reggae things both good venues but a bit big and expensive for the little bristol soul scene..thanx anyway....into tomorrow (perks and myself) have now got a weekly slot at po na na in clifton called soul a go go, which can hold upto about 250 which is big enuff, its a great venue, although the dancefloor isnt wood its not bad and the tiles behind the dex are like ice !..its clean and the pa is wicked, chek out listings for more info...

Yeah, with Lakota I was thinking about the other room - there's 3 rooms there I think and one of them is kinda isolated with a wooden floor, about 200 capacity, looked plausible but you'd need something complimentary to go with it. I expect the total capacity is probably about 1000; they put on hip hop/funk nights like Cut Chemist and a soul second room would probably compliment that sort of thing well. So, they do other stuff there other than rave music (I went to a soundclash there in November) but it has to be said there were a lot of posters around for rave nights.
I liked the Trinity centre, they do a wide variety of stuff there and the staff were friendly - you'd probably need at least 250 to get it going though but I doubt it cost very much; probably about 500 capacity. Maybe something to consider if you start getting bigger DJs in or you get to a point where you feel sure you'd pull 250 people in.
Never been to Po Na Na but I've heard good things about it. Hope it all goes well.

yeah i know the room in lakota you mean and agree a northern room would compliment some of the things they have on there.. same with trinity, top venue..in the 80s i lived in norwich but a friend of mine says hes been to soul dos there when he was a scooterist back then...to be honest we are a long way off that in bristol...never say never..but gotta walk before we run...po na na is right size for now...best thing is the managers love it and are well behind us and are up for givin it time if it needs it..theres enuff in the area..and lots of little nights on just need a regular thing to try and wake them all up !!...had good feedbak from tex and should be more at the next one on friday...hope so just got more new tunes !!!!
