the last nite at the garden started with a surprise for me...i was under the impression that this was to be our warm up dj ian mccree of 4 years' last nite but when john turned up alone and very hungry after a busy stress full day without any food, telling me that last months go go was ians last i was more than a bit shocked...john needed to chill for a bit with a pint of doombar and a packet of crisps so i did the first 45 mins desperatly searchin my box for something a bit more mid tempo than my normal later sets...john then played 45 and we both did another 30mins before our guest andy hutchin did the normal 11.30 1 hour slot...leaving another half hour set each for us
WOW! what a spot he did...never heard andy play out before but having known him a few years now i knew he would do the bis..some big floorfilling classics mixed with rarities such as justins 'right now' and ester grants 'lets get the most of our love' alongside some 'newer' unknown spins such as irma routens 'i will sacrifice' one to look out for...
more time on the decks(2 guests in future) meant i got a chance to play about a dozen first time spins alongside some classics and go go faves, finishing on a very apt fave, tiny topsys 'miss you so'
john also played some new and great unknown sounds inc brothers 7 ..ive forgotten the title but will try and find out and put it on here and see if anyone knows it as its not in 'the book'...right at the end he played a couple of bluebeat ska tracks and finished on what has become our regular ender, the also very apt 'move on' by baby washington...despite calls for more from a still busy dancefloor we had gone passed our time and with respect to the great staff decided against it
so a great nite to finish with travellers from wales, worcester and london despite there being some regulars away at weekenders and scooter rallies we still had almost 100 in...having turned about a dozen 'non soulies' away
next nite is at fiddlers club in bristol on the 7th july with greg belson from L.A full details in the event section...fiddlers is a great club but we will need all the support weve had over the 4 years to make it work...i can wait to try!!!
hope to see regulars and new faces there
