Have to give you all the bad news I'm afraid, as those of you who were there on Saturday attended the last ever Hiphugher. Myself & Ken have not taken this decision lightly but the writting on the wall has been there for some time now. The fall in attendances ( especially this year ) combined with the basic economics of running the event, dose'nt make it viable to put on anymore. I'ts like putting on a big party but at the end of the day we were paying for it everytime. Which just leaves me to sincerely thank all of you who have attended over the past 10 years, its been a privilage playing out to you & we know you'll have some great memories from one of the south west's leading venues.

i dont understand why this has happened...according to route planner this event is less than 20 miles from bridgwater which is always busy.....whats the difference between the two events?

gutted to hear this mick but thanx to you and ken and all involved for puttin on some great nites in a top venue...
really dont know why this night has not had more support...ive tried getting bristol people down there as it sometimes takes longer to get across bristol than down to weston but sadly you can normally count on one hand the regular travellers out of bris nowadays..
as for all the bridgewater regulars i really dont understand why they do not come up the m5 a bit....both have across the board music policies both classic and semi known...great guests...and great venues
who knows ...which is the title of one of the tunes i got from des at the last ever hip hug her
see you all soon

(Thats in Manchester by the way). what on earth are you on about?...maybe that attitude has seen ppl stay away...it just seems odd that a venue less than 20 miles away is mobbed and i was trying to find out why i know where hideaway is i go to lots of events why dont you post your opinion then mick...if its been writing on the wall for ages why didnt you and ken try to halt the slide moldie

i think hip hug her was unlucky enuff to clash with a couple of venues in the past so numbers were down a bit then...wasnt anybodys fault nothing deliberate just one of those things when there are so many nights on....maye now that moneys tight some people went where there had always been good numbers (bridgewater couple of weeks backs, glos alnighter in a couple of weeks and warmwell scooter rally this weekend)......
some people dont dance unless its a busy night,i dont give a shit if i like a tune im on the floor even if im on my own....i think grand atlantic is a bigger venue than most other soul nites down here so some may have the goldfish bowl syndrome when only 70+ in a 250 venue....
gloucestershire has always had a big northern crowd with lots of nights on...bristol has a big younger crowd and maybe it was just a bit too far for those from devon and beyond... they were always a friendly bunch..good sound and the best dancefloor of all local events so dont know...maybe if mick and ken were more local to weston cost would have been lower and they would have carried on
like i said before who knows ...dont think its any 1 thing but it is a shame

Probably simple economics i would think. Its in a big hotel owned and run by a big company, has no in house PA system etc Other venues can survive on 70 in and look busy, and be extra happy if 100+ turn up but equally can survive and keep ticking over if only 30 or 40 in.
70 in the GA looks empty and break even number is probably above that figure
It is a shame because its a fantastic venue that encompasses a lot of the old traditional venues, I've tried to support it when i can in all its past guises even though musically its not where my heads at, but then again its the one venue i can walk home from!
Will be missed

surely there must be other venues in the weston area...there is really no need to end the event..what actually is the music policy....?
