Seeing an advert for a new film out in the near future about a Pirate Radio ship made me remember how I listened to radio Luxembourg under the bedclothes whilst the signal faded in and out. Before Radio Caroline opened a government report said there was no demand for popular music stations yet within a couple of weeks there were millions listening to it. Radio London followed but I have to admit I never listened to John Peel and his Perfumed Garden. Most of the pirates were closed down in 1967. The BBC replaced the pirates by renaming the light programme Radio 1.
Records heard by groups like The Byrds, 4 Seasons, Rodger Collins, Kim Weston, Scott McKenzie, Oscar Toney Jr., The Platters, Joe Tex, The Beach Boys, The Esquires, Jimmy Cliff were a few of the distractions that stopped me doing my homework!
