the night started off with me driving to the venue seeing most of the posters id put up earlier covered up by 'grooverider' posters ! as if were in compitition with drum and bass ??
when i got to the venue i realised id forgot the backdrop so had to go home again as some early birds were already arriving half an hour before the start.
go go has been going just over a year and for the first 9 months or so tended to be a late starter, with maybe a half the crowd arriving before 1030 and filling up later with younger 'non soul scene' types however the last few months its been filling up earlier as more 'soulies' start to give us a look from both bristol and surrounding areas.Although the numbers were slightly down on last month we still had over 60 in and most of them were in before 10.00.
although we were missing some regulars down to work, babysitting problems ,holidays and some saving themselves for stoke on saturday we still had some new faces and people from radstock, chard, trowbridge, bath, weston, coldicot and wales.
as always while nicci was on the door our doorman ian mccree was kicking things off with a set of mid tempo and even some deep 60s soul as the bar area filled up.The next three hours were split into half hours sets , we find this the best way to mix up the music as we dont just play northern. My friend jack and john stapleton played mixed sets slipping in a few latin and british beat with the soul while i stuck with the northern classics.I had been waiting for some new semi known tunes which didnt arrive in time but it didnt matter as except for a couple of rnb i didnt play the new tunes i HAD got as both jack and john had played a lot of unknowns and the crowd were loving the known faves i was playing enough.
we had a few minor problems with the mixer meaning we had to use one channel for both the mic and one of the turntables so talkin on the mic was kept at a minimum.the club had also had a visit from the council in the week so the landlord was getting a bit nervous as the volume crept up.
once again we finished at about ten past one with a full dancefloor singing clapping and shouting for more.at times the dancefloor was a bit to busy for some to dance and the 1 oclock finish is too early so we are starting to consider a change in venue.it wont be for a couple of months and until we find one with the right go go vibe but watch this space.
a big thanx to all those who continue to support us and make this night a sucsess and allow it to be just a little different.
see you on the third friday of march
