Managed to attend the Soulfusion Soul night at Dowty Sports and Social Club, Glos, last Saturday and had a great time.
Friendly people in attendance, two rooms of music and some superb sounds...Northern, Motown, RnB and modern... which was well supported. Great to see DJ Dean on the turntables again playing some belters once more, good dance floor attendance with Topsy Turvey and crew from Banbury, as well as Wales and Penzance posse.
Congratulations to Neil Self etc for a great promotion and a superb night.

cheers barry was good to see you there..a couple of others up there from bristol too..
numbers were down a little bit as apparently upto 30 regulars had gone down to porthcawl to support sue taylor who was djing down there but there was still enough for neil to pay all the bills and the dancefloor to be full most of the night till the end and a great atmosphere..
fair play to don palmer who was snowed in saturday afternoon in malvern and didnt look like he was goin to make it..along with the residents jon, hippo and jinksy some top tunes.
soulfusion is a good night..my first time of playing but often up there dancin..next one is the 18th may..i think its maz from oxford guesting in the main room but sadly my turn to miss it as i'll be djing down in porthcawl..hopefully maybe next year they wont clash
see you soon barry!

im confused too now!...cant see anything in the events on soulsource for 18th or 25th but it says on the soulfusion website they are on the 18th? hopefully ive got it wrong...getting together in bristol is also on the 18th aswell as porthcawl!!
we know at gogo we will often clash with things as we are on every month but when we started it was just going to be a bristol monthly club nite we never dreamed we would one day have so many travellers from the uk soul scene coming to check us out...the first weekend is also popular being as everyone has money in their pocket!
so while im dissapointed when we clash i cant get angry as its one of the drawbacks of being a monthly nite..the truth is there are just too many nights on but who am i to say who can and cannot promote...but for me personally if i count the nights within in and hours drive of bristol...bridgewater,riverside,wooten hall motown, wooten hall allniter, going to a happening weston, porthcawl, getting together bristol, lets get together bath, cafe a gogo and fabulous in cardiff, hip hug her is now starting up again in cardiff...most of these have 3 or 4 a year..on top of that no one wants to put on nites that clash with the big weekenders weston, newquay, barnstaple and allniters like kings hall which attract a lot from the sw...that lot doesnt leave many free dates!
nightmare!

I ASKED NEIL ABOUT THE CHANGE AND HE SAID THE CLUB MUST HAVE CHANGED THE DATE - WE HAVE ON AN E MAIL GIVING THE 25TH AND IT WAS ON SOUL SOURCE YESTERDAY SO NOW REMOVED. AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED SOULFUSION, PORTHCAWL AND GETTING TOGETHER HAVE A CHUNK OF PEOPLE WHO NOW HAVE TO DECIDE WHICH VENUE TO ATTEND ON THE 18TH.

Hi Dean, I am pleased that it all worked out for Neil Self, and that Don Palmer was able to attend the event as usual, albeit DJ'ing in a different room. Don certainly played some excellent records and it was great to be able to drink Tea and Coffee (as well as Lemon and Lime as usual) throughout the evening while enjoying the dancing and music.
Pleased also, that some people went to support Motown Sue and Martin Taylor in Porthcawl, both deserve it.
From the info above, provided by Cathy and you, with regard to Events...there will certainly be much choice for soul fans in the future, which is great. However, as you have mentioned, a choice will certainly have to be made by the punters as to which event to attend. Events that inspire an atmosphere incorporating a sense of well being...such as...'Bridgwater soul nights', Banbury Soul Club, the recent 'Go Go' in Bristol and also last Saturdays Soulfusion in Glos will have ticked all the right boxes for me. I do believe that the Promoters at these events have placed soul fans interests at heart, and I applaud the promoters at the aforementioned events for adopting such a sensible attitude and approach. Keep on doing what you are doing and the deserved support will be there.
Coupled with the Bridlington Soul weekender to come, intead of Whitby weekender as last year, 2013 is one to look forward to.
Hope to see you Pete, Cathy, your good self and Nicki about soon, work commitments allowing. Barry
