The following is a list of suggested guidelines for the site and I would like the opinion of its members. Please can you post your thoughts/ammendments/additions (pm’s will not be considered).
Please note: only members views will be considered; if you want a say in how the site is maintained, please register. If a post is deemed in need of moderating it will be dealt with by: a) contacting the poster asking for the post to be ammended or deleted b) If the post is not ammended/deleted by the poster, it will be moderated for them and the poster notified.
As the result of the recent content of some of the ‘guest’ postings, any post that is deemed in need of moderating/deleting, will be - without notification.
Offensive language will be moderated (including deviation of spelling) without notification.
Persintant posting of offencive language will result in a warning through personal message.
Three warnings can result in a temporary or pemanant ban from the site.
I will be contacting Pip shortly and asking if he can give another person the status of ‘Staff Member’ so that any decisions made will be in consultation with another person before any action is taken.

Mike, good idea I agree with everything you have suggested, but the 'guest postings' is there a way of allowing only registered users to post ? it seems that some people 'hide' under the guest name ( well, thats how it seems to me )

yeah seem's about right mike...agree with jo though,i dont think 'guests' should be able to post,it is easy enough to register and become a member, plus it would seem to undermine a ban if you can just post as a 'guest'...

Mike Again, I too would like to add that "guest" posts should be barred. Primarily because the latest spat of unrest has undoubtedly stemmed from "guest" posts. Banter, nice or offensive when you know whom that person is, can be dealt with in which ever way you choose to ,but against a person posting under the "guest" tag has all thoughts of things running throuh your mind!Sometimes wrong guessing the ID! I know as I had a sabatical from posting due to some "guest" aiming stupid comments my way!
We go to soul do's(around the country) to have a great time listen to top , sometimes crap choons, meet like minded people and enjoy , and thats how we personally think this site should be run, a forum to have friendly, controversial banter and that's where it stops! PMs should be for arranging lifts, swopping addys, phone numbers etc etc - not for hurling abuse etc Having met quite a few folks on here at various do's - I think we've long passed our childhood SQUABBLING days! The weekend's coming up so where possible lets go souling - we're @ Worcesters Soulful sessions(very modern for us) on Friday and Mortgage for diesel permitting we're up @ Bidds on Sat. Dean should be down to see you at go go children next fri too.

is there a way of allowing only registered users to post ? There isn't any way of allowing only registered users to post. At present, anybody (including members) can post as a 'guest', and there is no way to determine who the 'guest' is - at least not any way that i can find A guidelines for the site could state that, All guests are welcome however, ONLY members are allowed to post. If a guest ignores this guidline the post will be deleted. I have called Pip to talk this idea through with him but have been unable as yet to make contact. Please remember that ultimately he is in charge of the site so these, and any other proposals will need his blessing. thank you for the input so far. Mike

The proboards support forums say you can make it so only registered users can post.
Here : admin page > general settings > Guests Must Login > (select) Yes
Mike, is your account a moderator account or an administrator account?
I think what shows up in the admin panel is dependant on what type of account you've logged in with.
My 2c's on this : this forum is crippled by anonymous posting.

Agree with all of the above. I feel that guests should not be be allowed to post - if this does not happen members will not post and the site will die. This would be such a shame as I feel that the site has brought the South West together but recent events have left me not wanting to encourage new members to join.

True Cath, the last episode put me back in lurk mode. The post about Bridgewater, the spam, arguments, etc, all indicators of internet entropy.

Suggested guidelines for the site now read as follows:
If a post is deemed in need of moderating it will be dealt with by: a) contacting the poster asking for the post to be ammended or deleted b) If the post is not ammended/deleted by the poster, it will be moderated for them and the poster notified.
All guests are welcome however, ONLY members are allowed to post. ALL guests posts will be deleted without notification.
Please do not respond to any 'guest' postings as this will aknowledge acceptance to the post. Any response to a 'guest' posting will also be removed without notification.
Offensive language will be moderated (including deviation of spelling) without notification.
Persintant posting of offensive language will result in a warning through personal message.
Three warnings can result in a temporary or permanant ban from the site.
Members comments are still welcome. Guidelines will be in place by the weekend unless I have contact with Pip and he is against the idea.
I will also let Pip know that we need another moderator. Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
