there had been some ups and downs in the build up to this night and they carried on !...it was almost 11 and we only had about 50 people in and with two top djs,new flyers and an extra hour to pay for at one point it looked like we were gonna lose money for the first time in 5 1/2 years..johnny Weston turned up and told me he'd sorted a playbox out and then picked the wrong one up...but he should be ok... by 1145 when johnny played his first set the numbers had almost doubled finishing on 97 payers and it was clear johnnys second box was better than a lot of djs first one!!...I could now start to enjoy the night
a mix of unknown and in demand oldies of mainly northern filled the floor and by the time greg came on the place was buzzin and that's how it carried on,kickin off with willie dale greg entertained and educated us in an awesome selection of hard fast funky edged soul and gospel with some big rnb killers thrown into the mix,we were even privilaged to a couple of first time spins..johnny and greg played two 45 minute sets each and by the time I came back on at 2 the floor was still heaving and I had to try and fit some gogo faves and requests into half an hour, once again not getting time to spin some of my new tracks..never mind only a month to wait!...john stapleton came on for his third 30 mintute set and kept the dancers busy right till the end despite being a bit under the weather as always three great sets earlier including a new buy from a Bristol record fayre that day.. 'trackdown' by Harvey scales in ex condition..for £15! :-)
so all that's left is to say a massive thanx to our guest djs greg belson and johnny Weston..greg signing off on the mic saying see you next year..yes please! and people asking me if I can get johnny back even before hed finished playing
a big thanx also to all the dancers who did us proud again both the Bristol soulies and youngsters and all the travellers from sth wales ,Gloucester ,somerset , birmingham, leicester.weston and Northampton
next month we do it again with the return of mark white from Cardiff and craig the funky plumber from Exeter!
